The 100 of '12 - Part 3
The 100 of '12
Part 3 (July-September)
---------------
The Amazing Spider-Man
July 3
"(500) Days of Summer" director in a reboot of the franchise, starring that guy from "The Social Network" who didn't invent Facebook, Emma Stone, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary (yay!), Sally Field, and Rhys Ifans as The Lizard. I am not sure about this one…
Savages
July 6th
Oliver Stone flick with a sick cast about dueling marijuana growers who's hippy girlfriend gets kidnapped and demands 5 years worth of profits. Marijuana growers played by Aaron Johnson ("Kick-Ass"), Taylor Kitch (yes, this is his 3rd starring role in 2012), Blake Lively as the girlfriend, Uma Thurman as the gf's Mom, John Travolta, Salma Hayek, Benicio Del Toro & Emile Hirsch. Woah...
Ice Age: Continental Drift
July 13
Ah just what the regular "Ice Age" cast needs: Nicki Minaj? Where did this chick even come from? Ray Romanao, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah all returning, looks like it's adding Sean William Scott, and…J.Lo? I'm predicting it makes $Texas
The Dark Knight Rises
July 20
Man this is going to be one helluva summer for movies! Christopher Nolan's finale of his Batman reboot, Christian Bale, Michael Cane, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman, but also Anne Hathaway (Catwoman) and Tom Hardy (Bane) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Not much known about his character other than that he's a "beat cop"...if only they had a sidekick for Batman (I would totally accept Gordon-Levitt as Robin) This one is going to be monstrous...I can't wait.
The Watch
July 27
Directed by Akiva Schaffer (Hot Rod, also one of the dudes from The Lonely Island), written by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg ("Superbad", "Pineapple Express", "Green Hornet"), starring Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller and that dude from "The IT Crowd". Has potential...
Step Up Revolution
July 27
It's not on here because I want it to be…only because it's going to make money.
The Bourne Legacy
August 3
New director, so that means Matt Damon is out, so guess who is starring as a new Bourne, who is not Jason Bourne? Yup, it's Mr. Everywhere, Jeremy Renner. You'd think between "Mission Impossible", "Hansel & Gretel", "The Avengers" and some other flick in 2012 that he'd be busy! Rachel Weisz, Scott Glenn and now Edward Norton as the villain and this might be good. Shouldn't be called Bourne though...it's just weird. Then again, I just watched the trailer and it looks like it could be good.
Total Recall
August 3
Len Wiseman ("Live Free or Die Hard", "Underworld 1 & 2") in a remake of the Ahnold 1990 flick. Collin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Ethan Hawke might just have enough to make this remake work, which apparently is taking a different approach to the same story. Get your ass to Mahrs. (lol couldn't resist)
The Campaign
August 10
Not much is known right now other than that it's Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as 2 opponents running for the 2012 Presidency.
Warm Bodies
August 10
Christ. Really? The studio that released "Twilight" is really going out on a limb with this one…I shit you not: "A zom-rom-com", a zombie romantic comedy. This time a girl is in love with…yes…a zombie. /facepalm
Update: Rescheduled to February 2013
The Odd Life of Timothy Green
August 15
This one is…odd…Hahahah okay, seriously, Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton put their "hopes and dreams for an infant" in a box and bury it in their backyard. A kid emerges and…stuff happens? Ok? Oh hey, Ron Livingston!
The Expendables 2
August 17
Who knew this would become a successful franchise? And who knew that Sly would make such a ridiculous comeback? Okay here we go (deep breath): Stallone, Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Terry Crews & Dolph Lundren return, Bruce Willis and Arnold Scharzenegger make cameos, Thor's Chris Hemsworth's little brother shows up, and you'll never believe who's been added. That's right, it's Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van GOD DAMME.
Paranorman
August 17
From the same people who made "Coraline", this is a movie about a kid who can speak with the dead. Voices of: Casey Affleck, John Goodman, McLovin and more.
Premium Rush
August 24
Joseph Gordon Levitt in a movie that sounds awful "a bike messenger picks up an envelope and then a dirty cop wants the envelope so he chases him around the city" Ugh.
7500
UPDATE: Moved to 2013
Director of "The Grudge" in a movie about passengers on a flight who encounter a "supernatural force"
Lawless
August 31
Tom Hardy & Shia LaBeouf as bootleggers directed by John Hillcoat (Road To Perdition, The Road). Good cast, with Gary Oldman & Guy Pearce as well.
Gangster Squad
Update: Moved to January 2013
Flick from Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer set in the 40's and 50's of the LAPD's struggle to keep the Mafia out of L.A. Big cast: Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Giovanni Ribisi, Nick Nolte, Michael Pena, just saw the first trailer and it looks like it could be good.
Argo
September 14
Directed by and Starring Ben Affleck, about the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, also with John Goodman, Kyle Chandler and your very own Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad" fans.
Update: Release date changed to October 12th
Resident Evil - Retribution
September 14
Do you really need to read what this movie is? Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil…rinse, repeat, bank. Is Michelle Rodriguez back? Didn't she get [OMG SPOILER] chopped up into tiny cubes by lasers in the very fist one?
Dredd
September 21
Director of "Vantage Point" takes on the "Judge Dredd" remake with Karl Urban (LOTR's Eomer, Bones in "Star Trek", "Doom") as Dredd.
End of Watch
September 21
Jake Gyllenhal and Michael Pena in a L.A. cop flick. Haven't seen anything, so tentatively putting on this list.
Trouble with the Curve
September 21
I'm a sucker for baseball movies, and Clint Eastwood movies, and Justin Timberlake sure seems to be coming along as an actor. Well here's all three! A Clint Eastwood flick starring Eastwood, Timberlake and Amy Adams about baseball. Haven't seen a thing about it yet so who knows.
Killing Them Softly
Update: Moved to October 19th
Brad Pitt, Sam Rockwell, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta in a crime drama.
Hotel Transylvania
September 28
Wow...potential here too. Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky of "Samurai Jack" and "Dexter's Laboratory" Cartoon Network fare, an animated movie with voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Miley Cyrus, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Cee Lo Green & David Spade.
Looper
September 28
I might be pulling a Saturday double feature this weekend. First, this one has an interesting time travel concept, directed by Rian Johnson ("Brick"), starring my BFF, Joseph Gordon Levitt & Bruce Willis with Emily Blunt & Jeff Daniels.
