The Back to Karkand expansion pack is much more than just maps. We are also adding a new layer of persistence in the form of ten Assignments. These will be tracked no matter if you play a base game map or expansion pack map, and add a new way to unlock things in the game.

Might try these tweaks to reducing crashing... Overall I've been pretty stable.
Running a 6950 Twin Frozr III, not OC'd but shaders unlocked.
Everything is on High, except:
Mesh = medium
AA Deferred = off
Ambient Occlusion = SSAO
Motion Blur = uncheck
Enlighten = uncheck.
I am running Nvidia but I will try it. Last night I had a run with no crashes but when I first logged on it was every 15 min.
Ive only had one crash on mine (a lockup actually) since i got the game. Other than that i only get the very brief graphics hitch flashes once in a while (def driver related).
I'm fairly sure that one crash was caused by my computer's observation of my terrible gameplay and thus decided it needed to end the heinous embarrassment i was subjecting myself to.
Right about the time they realized development costs for modern high end gaming does not at all provide ROI when the price point is stuck at $50-60 per title per copy...
I think that is the only option when they cannot get people to bite on monthly subscription and content update fees.
AKA the Gran Turismo Prologue model...

Today's PC client patch features numerous tweaks to Squad functionality and is part of our ongoing efforts to make it easier to play with friends and Platoon mates. These changes will also be implemented for consoles when we release the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 updates shortly. Stay tuned for the exact date of the console updates.
First, we need to look at how joining with Squads and Platoons affects the balance of teams. Initially, servers are commanded to equal out each side, so joining with friends can impact that balance while joining with Platoons further hinders this. As a result we have made some adjustments to the in-game Squad management screen.
For PC, you are now able to highlight the various Squads and select which one you wish to join by selecting a Squad and then clicking the Join Squad button. Please note that the Squad Privacy option still allows 2 man Squads which, during 64 player sessions, can lead to players with no squad position –- the number of people with no Squads will be shown at the bottom of the Squad selection list.
After the patch is applied to consoles (in the near future) you will be able to join Squads by cycling through the list and selecting which Squad you wish to join.
Wow that's quite the update. Can't wait to try some of the new stuff. Not a fan of the lower rocket damage against air. It's hard to hit one to begin with.
ps I changed a setting in my graphics and I didn't crash last night... but of course after this update everything should change.
I just unlocked the M4 on Engineer and I am only getting single fire and burst fire - no auto anymore. Is this how it should be?

I created a Noncompliance platoon. Make sure to become a member as it combines stats etc. You can be a member of more then one platoon. I am top tank driver! (until someone else joins)

Just move us to the "good" team when you see us on the server. I am one of the guys sitting around seeding the server early in the night so you can jump into a full server :)
I like your guys TS but when others are online we hang on the vent server so we can talk. I don't think any of us feel comfortable really talking a lot in the TS server. And there is only that one channel.

I found that the Metro map is the best map to power level on. Find a 64 player Metro map server,get on there and drop ammo and medic pacs you will gets points like crazy!
I bought the game on black Friday, but didn't realize I had selected the physical CD rather than a download. So, I need to wait for it to be shipped. I called today since it has been 5 days, and they said the game is on backorder since they had so many orders recently. Hopefully I will get it soon...
Did you try to register the game in Origin? I think after you do that you can digital download the game anytime you like. I am surprised they sold you a physical copy for $29. I thought it was DD only.
I downloaded Origin, but it had no record on the Origin program that I had ordered the game. That was one of the reasons that I called. I was not provided with a CD key or anything that would allow me to register the product on Origin.
I just received the game today, so I will be playing it some over the weekend.
Once you are on the game browsing screen (in your browser) hit the add friend and add me: klaus9000. Then you can see my friends list and add everyone - mike, mike, joe, eric, etc.

Also, it will once again be possible to reduce the number of players required to start a round to 1 both in ranked and unranked mode. We changed it back after getting a lot of negative feedback from both individuals and the RSP companies.
Our plan is to introduce a warm-up mode, where players can move about and play the game, but with scoring disabled; then, when the number of players goes above the threshold -- that's when the real round starts.
I have been having problems when the match is over and the map switches where I get a blank black screen and have to close the game with task manager. Hopefully this gets fixed either by the patch or the new video card I just ordered. My old card caused my comp to crash/power off during newer games (SC2, BF3). I just ordered this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150563. Very good deal with the rebate, and it has a lifetime warranty. I am switching to Radeon because they offer a lot more bang for your buck now and I have had problems with my past 2 Nvidia cards.
It is really hard getting started in BF3 when everyone you're up against has all of the "cheat" items like scopes, IR vision, etc. Most of the time I don't even see the person that killed me even if they aren't a sniper. I have decided to mostly stick to driving tanks with an engineer, which has worked okay. You're pretty much a sitting duck in a tank though if there is a decent helo pilot on the other team.
Everyone is getting the black screen freezes during map changes..
Yeah repair is a good way to get points, so it playing support or assault and making sure you drop lots of health/ammo packs near people, and getting the paddles opened up so you can revive people... Go for high point activities like that and you will open up your perks fast.
Yeah just remember to cap points and move on. Spot everything you can for bonus points. Get on a good team. Guns suck at first but it gets better.
Couple questions:
I just got IR smoke for tanks... how do you use it? I mashed buttons but couldnt figure it out. Is it effective at all and in what situations do you use it?
How do you pick up ammo/health packs? Do you just move through them or do you need to hit a button?
The IR smoke is a countermeasure for Heat Seekers. You need to look at keybinds under tank & aircraft and see what your default countermeasure key is, I changed mine so I don't know the default.
There is a three pattern beep you hear when someone is targeting you with HS..
Beep-Beep-Beep while they are acquiring, solid beep when they have lock, and a quick dit-dit-dit-dit-dit when missile has been launched. Ideally you don't deploy the countermeasure until you hear they have fired, although if you do it when they get lock but haven't fired it will break their lock and they have to reacquire.
You don't pick up health and ammo packs, you just stand by them. Ammo takes a while and 1 ammo pack will not be enough to fully resupply you, takes a few.
I think I have mostly figured out the game now and all the display details. Seems like the big problem for noobs like me is everyone using that IR scope to find you easily when you cant see them, but that will get nerfed with the patch which should make things easier for me.
The IR scope isn't that over powered it just allows you to see players better. I think the major problem new players have is poopy weapons and they just don't know where the cover is. I know almost every hiding spot on Caspian now and that helps a ton. And nice scopes and weapons helps me pick off the newbs running around like idiots...
One thing that helps early on is pick up other peoples weapon kits when they get killed..
Can you use other peoples nicer weapons or only the items you yourself have unlocked? I loved counterstrike so when I dont see anyone on just get destroyed at team deathmatch. I like that I can focus on upgrading specific weapons that way. It also is a quick 10 to 12 minute match on some servers. When I see Scott on, I just follow him around on the big maps lol. Ill get the hang of it.
I think you can use other people's weapons. I have only done it once.. I don't know if they drop every time someone dies. It may be that only your squad's weapons drop for you to pick up. I did pick up a sniper rifle that had a nice scope on it once though.
I am finding out that the most important thing about this game is to work together with your squad. Their names and classes show up yellow on your HUD and you can always see them on your HUD. You really don't want to be on your own ever unless you are Recon/Sniper. You always want to be near an assault and/or support squad member. If you don't have an assault member in your squad, switch to one because healing is very important. You should almost always be spawning on an alive squad member, unless they are in a really bad situation and you will just die when you spawn. Spawning at bases is just a waste of time and doesn't help anyone.
I like operating vehicles more than being infantry and have been playing an engineer. But it is probably better as an engineer to be the top gunner so you can get out and repair while the driver can still shoot the cannon. If you aren't operating a vehicle as an engineer though, you should be focusing on laying mines on the road out of the other team's main base and using rockets to take down any that get past those. Also, I have learned to use my RPG more on infantry that are near cover or through a doorway in a confined space.
The other very important thing to learn is to not just run around. You die way too much by doing that. You could get away with doing it in games like CS and 1942, but in this game you're just an easy moving target. Being patient, sneaking, and using cover are key.
