Best Looking Movies

Watchmen

I honestly don't know much about Watchmen, other than that it's called one of the better graphic novels ever. Apparently the story is great, the art was top notch, but it's had it's share of challenges getting made. Also, I hear it's been called an unfilmable graphic novel. Either way, I'm pumped since Zack Snyder's last movie (300) was one of my favorites.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I'm so excited for this movie. I've been waiting to see when Gambit would show up, can't wait to see the Team X stories, I think Jackman is an excellent Wolverine, I'm eager for the Wolverine/Sabertooth reunion, I like William Stryker and his backstory, and I think Ryan Reynolds will be cool to see as Deadpool. So much goodness bundled into this movie.

Also, I'm a huge "Friday Night Ligts" fan (the TV show) and the fact that Tim Riggins is playing Gambit actually makes me happy. Dominic Monaghan (LOTOR's Merry, Lost) will also be interesting to see...

Star Trek

Never been much of a Star Trek fan, more of a Star Wars fan. Have seen the movies, but never watched the shows, new or old. However, I will definitely be watching this movie. J.J. Abrams makes good stuff, the cast looks great, apparently the story is awesome and it's a new beginning for us non-Trekkies!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/44/Angels_and_demons.jpg
May 15
Angels & Demons

I absolutely loved reading "Angels & Demons" compared to the overhyped "The DaVinci Code". Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed DaVinci Code (the book) but the movie was just mediocre. I love the story and am very excited to see this one. Tom Hanks is back and they add one of my favorites, Ewan McGregor. Hopefully this one is the 5 star movie that Ron Howard, Tom Hanks, etc should be making.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/de/Bruno_poster.jpg/200px-Bruno_poster.jpgMay 15
Brüno

I almost put this into the "movies that could surprise" section because I"m not 100% convinced that this will be a hit. Borat was absolutely hilarious, but it's next to impossible to shift gears into the Bruno character and achieve the same types of laughs. I think it will make a lot of money, but people will still be calling for a Borat sequel and Bruno will be forgettable . We'll see. (Not) MUCH SUCCESS!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/Terminator-salvation-poster.jpg
May 22
Terminator Salvation

God, should be a blast. McG is a entertaining director, Bale (is it just me or is he getting every good role) will be awesome, the effects, the story, the war....omg!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c5/Up_Poster.JPGMay 29
Pixar's Up

I'm nervous about this one as well, but Pixar has never let me down. They got close with "Cars", but it was still decent...just not original. This one most certainly looks original, a guy flying around the world in his house with balloons coming out of his chimney. But does that mean it will be good? We'll see...I'm confident in Pixar's storytelling ability, should be excellent.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/99/Land_of_the_Lost_poster.jpg
June 5
Land of the Lost

Will Ferrell, $100 million budget, that mulleted guy from "Tropic Thunder" (Danny McBride) and a show that I watched when I was like 4 years old... Could make a lot of money and be a huge hit.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/cb/TF2SteelPoster.jpg/200px-TF2SteelPoster.jpg
June 26
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Ahhh! My head...too much goodness for such a Transformers geek like me! Soundwave, Ravage, Sideswipe, Jetfire, Arcee (argh!), THE CONSTRUCTICONS OMG. Also, Megan Fox is back...yay!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/46/PEPOSTERsm.jpg/215px-PEPOSTERsm.jpgJuly 1
Public Enemies

Again, Christian Bale is everywhere! Johnny Depp as John Dillinger being chased by FBI man Christian Bale? Based on the true story, bestseller, etc, etc. I'll see it. I like Giovanni Ribisi too...I don't see him in nearly enough (good) movies.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/dd/2012_Poster.jpg/200px-2012_Poster.jpgJuly 10
2012

Huge cast (John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson, more), Emmerich loves destroying the Earth (IE4, Day After Tomorrow), huge budget, and it'll get plenty of people paranoid about 2012 (the alignment of the galaxy, Nostradamus, apocalypse, etc). I'm excited though, I love the post-apocalypse movies where everyone is gone except for a few remaining people ("The Stand", "I Am Legend" before it got stupid, etc)...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e8/Hp6teaserposter.jpg/200px-Hp6teaserposter.jpg
July 17
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Since the last movie came out, I read all the Harry Potter books because I was frustrated because I knew I was missing things. The last movie tried to cram so much in that it left me asking so many questions. I am so excited to see this movie now that I've read the series. Half-Blood Prince was one of the best books (in my opinion) and now that they're apparently turning the last book into two movies, this should be a blast.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/26/PosterFunnyPeople.jpg
July 31
Funny People

Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Eric Bana, and directed by Judd Apatow. Looks like a good storyline: two stand up comedians, one successful (Sandler) one new (Rogen) and Sandler finds out he has a disease and a year to live and takes Rogen under his wing and they become friends. A lot of talent in this movie, should be a hit.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/bc/Gijoemovieposter.jpg/200px-Gijoemovieposter.jpg
August 7
G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra

It's like I've died and gone to 30-year old geek heaven. G.I. Joe, Transformers, X-Men, yay!

In all seriousness, they could screw this movie up 100% and totally ruin my day, but I hope not.

Duke, Hawk (Dennis Quaid), Scarlet, Snake Eyes (Darth Maul!), Storm Shadow, Destro, The Baroness (Sienna Miller), Zartan and one of my favorite young actors, Joseph Gorden-Levitt (the kid from Third Rock From the Sun) as COBRA COMMANDER.

I'm not sold on Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, but with a HUGE budget ($170 mil), star power, and the fact that it's the beginning of what should be a long line of movies....I am pumped!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c3/Inglourious_Basterds_poster.jpg/200px-Inglourious_Basterds_poster.jpg
August 21
Inglourious Basterds

Quentin Tarantino writing and directing, a WWII take down the Nazi's story line, and Tarantino's jump around storytelling/multiple chapters, etc, and I am sold. Oh yes, and starring Brad Pitt. SOLD!

November 6
Nottingham

Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott in a remake of the Robin Hood story. Should be a winner...

Avatar

James Cameron's ambitious new 3D flick that he wrote 15 years ago. Sounds interesting, has a big budget ($300 million!) & cast, and apparently Cameron's goal is to "change the way people experience movies". Wow...could be huge!

Worst Looking Movies

Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience

5 years from now no one will know who these assclown are. Remember HANSON? Nope.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/3c/Dragonballposternewty5-1.jpg/200px-Dragonballposternewty5-1.jpgApril 8
Dragonball Evolution

Live action Dragonball movie. Oh what a good idea.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/be/Hannah-montana-movie-poster.jpg/200px-Hannah-montana-movie-poster.jpgApril 10
Hannah Montana: The Movie

Huh? Hasn't this girl's star burned out yet?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/50/Gforceposter2.jpg/200px-Gforceposter2.jpg
July 24
G-Force

"The film revolves around a team of trained secret agent guinea pigs that take on a mission for the US government to stop an evil billionaire, who plans to destroy the world with household appliances"

Jerry Bruckheimer's last movie that didn't involved blowing things up and coolness: Kangaroo Jack. Did I mention that movie destroyer extraordinaire Nicholas Cage is the star? I think that is a triple threat: horrid plot, Nicholas Cage and Bruckheimer not blowing things up.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bc/Stoogelogo.png
November 20
The Three Stooges

The Farrely Brothers, who brought us the classics "Dumb & Dumber", "Kingpin", "There's Something About Mary" and "Me, Myself & Irene" have pretty much missed consistently for the last 10 years. "Shallow Hal" is the only semi-decent one of their last 7 movies, so that's why I'm putting this atrocity on the worst movies list.

Honestly, I'd love to be surprised and have them make a good movie of this, but I strongly doubt it.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d8/Chipmunks2squeakuel.jpg
December 25
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel

For the love of God...oh good, now Miley Cyrus and Drew Barrymore are involved. It's a sure fire money maker...but a horrible movie I'm sure.

Movies That Could Surprise

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/Paul_blart_mall_cop_film.jpg
January 16
Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Looks funny and Kevin James usually makes me laugh. Not to spend $ in the theaters for imo...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7c/Fanboys_ver2.jpg
February 6
Fanboys

Pushed back, re-done, re-shot, etc etc, Fanboys is finally getting released. Could be good for us Star Wars geeks, but I've been hearing about this movie for a long time, so I'm sure it will fail to live up to some people's expectations.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/dd/I_love_you%2C_Man.jpg/200px-I_love_you%2C_Man.jpgMarch 20
I Love You, Man

Paul Rudd, Andy Samberg, Jason Segal, but it has chick flick written all over it...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/76/Monsters-vs-aliens-poster.jpg/200px-Monsters-vs-aliens-poster.jpgMarch 27
Monsters vs. Aliens

Animated, Dreamworks, 3D, lots of star voices (Seth Rogen, Dwight Schruete, Reese Witherspoon, Will Arnett (GOB), Hugh Laurie (House), etc...could be good.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8f/Fast_and_Furious_Poster.jpg/200px-Fast_and_Furious_Poster.jpgApril 3
Fast & Furious

Okay, so I liked The Fast & The Furious. I actually didn't even mind the 2nd one, but I didn't even both with the third one because it looked weak. Now the original people are back (Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Super Hot Brewster-chick) and it looks good. Helluva trailer, I love that song!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/0c/Year_one.jpg/200px-Year_one.jpg
June 19
Year One

Harold Ramis (Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters, etc) and Judd Apatow (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, etc) and an amazing cast (Jack Black, Michael Cera, Paul Rudd, Hank Azaria, Vinnie Jones, MCLOVIN) in a Biblical comedy. I almost put this into the "Best Movie" categories, but it's been pretty quiet, so who knows when this one will come out. I have a feeling it's going to be a huge hit...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d7/District_nine_ver2.jpg/200px-District_nine_ver2.jpg
August 14
District 9

A lot of buzz about this one, Peter Jackson producing, and they're doing a viral marketing campaign (like Cloverfield) where they don't tell you WTF these signs mean. Sounds like aliens land in South Africa and...stuff happens?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c9/9posterfinal.jpg/200px-9posterfinal.jpg
September 9
9

Tim Burton is just wacky, and this CGI movie looks really interesting. I love some of his movies, and hate others, but with a good cast (Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connely, that weirdo Crispin Glover) and an entertaining story, this one looks like a hit.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6d/Whiteout_poster.jpg
September 11
Whiteout

Another comic book movie, and at the very least Kate Beckinsale is in it. Some buzz for this one already...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/3c/TheInformant2009MP.jpg/200px-TheInformant2009MP.jpgSeptember 18
The Informant

Matt Damon, Scott Bakula (Quantium Leap!), directed by Steven Soderbergh (Oceans 11-18) in a true story based on the book. Another flick with early buzz to be a good one. Plus apparently Matt Damon modeled his character after me and my rock hard abs.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/fd/Surrogates2009MP.jpg/200px-Surrogates2009MP.jpgSeptember 25
The Surrogates

Another comic book movie, this one starring Bruce Willis. Interesting concept, and Bruce Willis doesn't generally make bad movies...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7b/Wherethewildthingsare.jpg/200px-Wherethewildthingsare.jpgOctober 16
Where the Wild Things Are

Almost put this into the "Best Movies" section as well. Hard to miss with Tom Hanks producing, Spike Jonze directing, James Gandolfini, Forest Whitaker, and a $100+ million budget...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/51/ThewolfmanU.S.poster.jpg/200px-ThewolfmanU.S.poster.jpgNovember 6
The Wolf Man

Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving, 85 million bucks and a remake of The Wolf Man could be big...or suck tremendously.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8d/ChistmasCarol2009-Poster.jpg/200px-ChistmasCarol2009-Poster.jpg
November 6
A Christmas Carol

Wow! Jim Carrey, Robert Zemeckis, John Cleese, Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman, William H. Macy, Carey Elwes, more. Sounds like Jim Carrey will play several roles, including Scrooge (young, old, present) and all the ghosts (past, present, future). It'll be 3D, and use the same type of filming that was used for Beowulf and Polar Express. Should be entertaining to say the least!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e0/Sherlock_holmes_ver5.jpg/200px-Sherlock_holmes_ver5.jpgNovember 20
Sherlock Holmes

Robert Downy Jr. as Holmes, Jude Law as Watson and Rachel McAdams. Directed by Guy Ritchie (Lock Stock, Snatch, etc). Should be great!

Sometime in 2009

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a7/The_Road_movie_poster.jpg
The Road

Pulitzer Prize winning post-apocalyptic novel "The Road" gets a movie treatment with an excellent looking cast (Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Robert Duvall).

Damn, looks like a solid year!

Know of any that I missed?
