A buddy at work has been having some trouble with his computer. He is using Windows XP home edition. It is a P4 like 2.4ghz I think with 512m ram so it is a modern comp. When he is connected to the net all that he gets is a non-stop stream of websights poping up. These are non-solicited by him.. he explains it like he opens IE once and at least 50 to 100 will them continue opening rendering his comp useless. Also, when not hooked to the net and when you first start the computer IE opens about 5 to 6 windows on it's own and obviously they they page can't be found. I haven't looked at it yet just wondering where I should start. Thanks in advance guys and gals!

Sounds like Spyware...

I'd go to www.download.com and download Ad-aware, update the spyware definitions, and run a full scan...

Let me know if that works.

Definetly ad-aware or Norton AV 2005 will clean it up. It's ad programs that imbed themselvs in the IE registry areas. My boss had the same problem.

Brad had something similar happen to his computer and adaware didn't do anything. It was a program called "Coolweb" that highjacked his computer. He downloaded cwshredder (can't recall where he found it) and it solved the problem.

I use a combination of AdAware and SpyBot1.3

When used together, they get rid of over 90% of malware.
SpyBot has the added bonus of a preventative blocker that stops that shit from ever getting on there in the first place.
Both are free and highly recommended...

Symantec has finaly incorporated Ad blocker spyware blocking and removing capability in Norton Anti-Virus 2005. Seems to work pretty well.
