Wow...Tim Burton can take a classic and make it even weirder...
The first one is still the best, this one was just too strange.
You know how in the first one Gene Wilder is really weird, but he's weird in a way where you like him? A little ecclectic, a little strange, but in the end he's weird in a good way? Well Johnny Depp (who I'm starting to agree is one of the great actors of our generation) just ended up being weird in a wird way.
I can't say it was bad, because I was entertained the whole time, but I was just waiting for it to be better than the first one.
Effects wise, absolutely...except the Oompa Loompas were odd. Not that they weren't odd in the first one, but a hispanic midget, computer generated 500 times...well...
The squirrels were amazing though...a testament to computer generated effects.
All in all, not bad, not great, and I'll stick with the original.
