Is it any wonder why I am a Denver fan? The vikings literally beat themselves and self destruct more than any other team EVER IN HISTORY!
They are the single most frustrating team to watch in all of sports. That includes the 2004 US olympic bball team. [ 09-20-2004, 22:39: Message edited by: Chadwick ]

Well I shhould be the one that is upset. I was down by 7 to Amy with Culpepper AND Westbrook playing last night. How many Culpepper TD runs got either brought back or messed up?
3... One fumble, one penalty, and one idiot Dante getting tackled by a guy 80 lbs smaller than him...

I have NEVER been a fair weather Denver fan. True, I only lived there for 3 years, but I adopted being a denver fan from my dad and it's been easy since the VIKINGS organization has been a pathetic mess from the top down for over 30 years. I have always suported denver. Even when the vikings are doing well I find it hard to get fully behind them. They have got to be the only franchise in sports history to have the most dominant team of the century and not even GET TO the superbowl. Blowing a game to atlanta.
The vikings are now and always will be a joke.
Simply pathetic. [ 09-21-2004, 09:11: Message edited by: Chadwick ]

Denver and green bay have some things in common, a proud history, a truly well run organization, passion for the game and the local fans at all levels of the franchise. It would be a cold day in hell before the broncos EVER even had the possibiltiy come up of leaving denver. The team has an identity and character.
"Denver has been one of the AFC’s most consistent teams since the mid-1970s. From 1977 to 1999 the team reached the playoffs 13 times and the Super Bowl six times. Longtime Broncos quarterback John Elway reached the NFL’s all-time top five in career passing yards, quarterback rushing yards, and completions. Former head coach Dan Reeves compiled one of the highest winning percentages (.581) in NFL history during his 12 seasons with the club.
Under head coach Mike Shanahan, the Broncos captured two super bowl championships by defeating the Green Bay Packers in 1998, then returned to the Super Bowl in 1999 and defeated the Atlanta Falcons."

So you're saying that when you sour on the Broncos, you will become a Packer-backer? Eeeewwww! I'm sorry I know you...

This is the typical sign of a true "Fair Weather Vikings Fan". They loose one game and everyone is saying how much they suck. IT'S ONE GAME! Now... if they go until the end of the season with their only win being the first game, then they offically suck.
Also, if many of you watched the game, many of the penalties that occured were due to rookie players that are in because our starters are out injured. There is a reason why they are a back up player. As for Donte... big hands???? Who knows.

I WAS a fair weather vikings fan. Now I am just no longer a fan.
And, NO it's not just one game its years and years of angst against that pitiful club.
They have all the "talent" in the world and go no where year after year. It is pathetic.
They are like exact oposites of the twins the twins are a great team that make championships out of "standard" run-of-the mill players. Same with the Wild, and the wild are already building a legacy. The northstars were much like the vikings and the vikes will most likely suffer the same fate...

They all suck . I am rooting for arizona and my god deny greens infinate wisdom. It was the vikes win and they were beat by the vikes. The only comment I have is why go for three when you are inside the 5? Don't they trust the Ted Catrell run D?

You can bitch all you want, but if the ref wasn't completely BLIND he would've seen three things:
1. T.O.'s knee was down at the 1 yard line and... 2. He was out of bounds and... 3. He never had control of the ball.
I know that they didn't play all that well, but here's something to think about: if we didn't play that well, why wasn't it a total blowout? The Eagles are one of the best teams in the NFL...if we played like shit, why wasn't it 50 - 3?
Anyway, if they would've called that play correctly, we would've stopped them, held them to 3 and marched down the field and tied it up...
I still love em, even with their stupid ass playing last night.
GO VIKES!
Oh, and I can't wait to see how badly we beat the Bears.
I can't remember, who did the Bears beat on Sunday.......on the road....

The vikings have no good reason for not scoring 21 more points than they did. Between the penalties and Daunte's total lack of decision making ability and hands. They lost only because of themselves. The D played a good game until they saw they were getting no help from the offense.

Remember it's the 2nd game of the season. I won't start the Viking suck stuff just yet. I thought we moved the ball well until the red zone - at which time we looked like a high school team.

I think culpepper played okay. he just made a couple of mistakes that cost them touchdowns. After Rosenthal went out with a broken foot, they had a rookie playing guard and TE (Dugan) Kliensasser is basically another offensive lineman when he is in. The minute Philly saw this happen, it was a free for all. They sent an extra man blitzing every down for the rest of the game. (safety, linebacker, etc.) Their goal was to limit Culpepper's time in the pocket and they did that to perfection. You can't throw anything but short passes when your stuck in 3 step drop mode. He was 37 for 47 and 350 yards. Philly also did not get one call against them on the defensive side of the ball all night and they were playing VERY physical. Basically the penalties and te couple mistakes by fumblepepper cost them the game. Every penalty was on an important down.

That is not what I saw at all. Yes he was getting pressured maybe 50% of the time he droped back to pass but the other half of those he just stood there or was in decisive. Quite a few times he had ALL DAY! When you put your head down to run don't hesitate. Cover up the ball and GO!!!!!!!! Pump faking at the line of scrimage on the 2 yard line is not going to fake anyone out especially if you are daunte.
I realize some of the credit goes to philly's D. But when you have randy moss daunte should be able to fight through that BS. [ 09-21-2004, 14:26: Message edited by: Chadwick ]

He was getting pressured every down. There was either a lone defensive player let free to come at him or the pocket was collapsing around him. I just don't think that our guys were giving him anything to throw at either. He obviously could have made a couple extra or better throws but the penalties pretty much negated anything positive he did... He also was tackled and stayed up long enough to either break the tackle or get off a throw that most smaller QB's would not have made...

You must not have watched the whole game. There were many plays where the O-line gave him all the time he needed. No, the O-line did not play a great game but about half the time he had all the time in the world.
The QB spy was played but only was effective when daunte ran or rolled way out. The QB spy D had no effect on him when in the pocket unless they were blitzing which they did a few times but not the whole night.
